What Society Members are Saying About Hybrid Work

My mom is 87 years old and lives with me. This work-from-home arrangement allows her to stay with us and receive the care she needs. I have two brothers who are also in the nuclear industry, so we’re able to coordinate our schedules. In my culture, it’s essential that she receives care at home. Working from home allows me to be there for her when she needs it. With two out of five days at home - and my brother having a similar arrangement at OPG - we can stagger our schedules to make sure she has support every day of the week.

Our members are lawyers who practice in different areas of law. In many cases, courts and tribunals are still operating remotely. For many stakeholders and litigants, remote work simply makes sense, which is why courts in many parts of the province continue to operate in a remote or hybrid fashion.

The flexibility that hybrid work affords has made our demanding jobs more manageable and has enabled members to finally achieve meaningful work-life balance.

I think about parents and how important it is to spend more time with your kids. Growing up, I used to ask my mom and dad why I didn’t see them very much. Hybrid work gives parents the chance to be more present - to be involved in what’s happening in their kids’ lives, whether it’s a medical emergency, extracurriculars, or homework.

It also reduces the stress of commuting, saves wear and tear on your car, and helps reduce pollution.

Hybrid work allows me to work in my home office - a quiet space compared to an open-concept environment. When I’m doing technical reviews, it can be difficult to focus with lots of people around. Working from home allows me to concentrate on the task and the technical work.

It also supports collaboration - I can connect on Teams and hear clearly during meetings.

Working from home supports my work-life balance. It gives me the flexibility to adjust my daily routine so I can focus entirely on my work program.
